How to use StartRight Launch Desk

A quick, plain-English walkthrough for new founders. Start to finish takes about 5 minutes.

StartRight provides business filing guidance, not legal, tax, or accounting advice. Requirements vary by jurisdiction and change over time. Always verify with official government sources or qualified professionals. StartRight does not guarantee that any filing list is complete.

1. Start your free checklist

Click Get my free checklist (or go to /start) and answer a few quick questions about your business:

  • Your business name and email
  • Where you operate — state, city, county
  • Your entity type (LLC, sole proprietor, corporation, nonprofit, DBA, or "not sure yet")
  • What you do — sell goods, sell services, hire employees, have a physical location, operate online
  • Your industry, target launch date, and biggest concern

There are no wrong answers. If you're unsure about something (like your entity type), pick "not sure yet" — the checklist still works.

2. Review your preview checklist

In a few seconds, a Gemini-powered Checklist Agent turns your answers into a filing-readiness checklist covering:

  • Federal items (e.g. EIN, beneficial ownership reporting)
  • State items (entity registration, registered agent, tax accounts)
  • City / county items (local business license, zoning)
  • Tax items (state tax, sales tax permit)
  • DBA / trade name, industry licenses, and employer items where they apply
  • Ongoing compliance reminders (annual reports, renewals)

Each item explains why it's needed, where to file, rough cost and time, what happens if you skip it, and a search link to the official source so you can verify it yourself.

You'll see the first few items as a preview.

3. Create a free account to save it

Click Create free account to save your checklist and unlock the full list. Your account:

  • Saves every checklist and business profile
  • Lets you come back anytime
  • Keeps your billing history in one place

Your guest checklist is automatically attached to your new account.

4. Read your full checklist

From your Dashboard, open any checklist to see every item grouped by level (Federal → State → County → City → Ongoing). Use the Find the official source links to confirm current requirements with the actual agency before you file.

5. Upgrade to a Launch Packet Review ($49)

When you want a deeper, prioritized plan, open a checklist and choose Get my Launch Packet Review. After checkout, two more Gemini agents go to work:

  • The Risk Review Agent finds gaps and the items most likely to be missed.
  • The Packet Writer Agent writes your packet.

Your Launch Packet Review includes:

  • A filing risk summary in plain English
  • Prioritized next steps (what to do first)
  • A 7-day action plan
  • An official verification checklist
  • Questions to ask a CPA, attorney, or licensing agency
  • Missing information to confirm

It appears in your dashboard the moment it's ready, and we email you a copy.

6. Go deeper (optional)

  • Concierge Launch Plan ($149) — an expanded, sequenced launch path with deeper jurisdiction and licensing notes.
  • Multi-Entity Compliance Map ($299) — for founders managing multiple businesses, DBAs, locations, or entities.

7. Share feedback

After your review, use Leave feedback to tell us what helped. If you opt in, we may share your feedback anonymously to help other founders.

A note on verification

StartRight is a starting point, not the final word. Filing rules differ by state, county, city, and industry, and they change. Always confirm current requirements with the official agency or a qualified professional before you act.
